Zbigniew Czapla
Zbigniew Czapla, born in 1972 is screenwriter, director, animator, painter and graphic artist. Graduated from the Graphic Arts Department of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow – specialising in animated film. Author of experimental animations. Won prizes at several festivals, such as the International Animated Films Festival KROK, TOFUZI, Anifest ROZAFA, TINDIRINDIS, OFAFA, ANIMATOR and Sardinia Film Festival. Received scholarships from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation (Canada), DAAD (Germany) and Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Member of the International Animated Film Society ASIFA.

In May 2010 thousands of people were made homeless when the Vistula flooded. In the ruins of his parents’ house Czapla finds nothing but a box of old family photographs. But they too have been severely damaged by water and mud, and cannot be saved. Film as an attempt to preserve bygones eradicated by the natural course of time, unfamiliar fragments, and a catastrophe as one’s own origin and family history.
